| This unit explains the evolution of networks from the traditional host-based architecture to the global internetworking architecture of today. The unit also describes the various organizations that set standards for communication and networking. It discusses the characteristics and functionality of Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks and explains the devices used in LAN and WAN. |

| Students should at the end of this course be able to describe networks, internetworking, devices used in networking. Students will be able to describe the various organizations that set standards for communication and networking |
| Assessment: |
| Students are presented with pre-course test to determine their knowledge before taking the course. During the course students will be presented with a series of quizzes to determine gained knowledge and retention of each section. At the end of the course students will be given a post course test to measure their overall understanding of the subject and retention of knowledge. By comparing their pre and post course test scores, students will be able to measure their knowledge gain. |
