Cisco CCNA WAN Protocols – HDLC, PPP
Full Description
This unit introduces you to the various WAN services, such as Frame Relay, ISDN, and X.25. It explains the connection parameters provided by a service provider in the assigning of a connection to a subscriber, defines the interfaces that enable communication between a subscriber and the service provider, explains the features and functions of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), explains the function of each component in the encapsulation and session establishment. As you move through this unit, you will learn about the PPP frame format and associated configuration options, such as authentication, compression, error detection, multilink with PPP, and LCP. You will learn about the authentication process used by PAP and CHAP. You will also configure and monitor PPP, learn the basic concepts of Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC), link types, and topologies supported by SDLC, learn the SDLC frame format. This unit further discusses protocols such as High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), Link-Access Procedure, Balanced (LAPB), IEEE 802.2, and Qualified Logical Link Control (QLLC). The HDLC frame format compared with the SDLC frame format will be taught and it explains steps to configure and monitor HDLC protocol. Finally, in this unit, you will also learn that among topologies supported by DDR, snapshot routing is best suited for the hub-and-spoke topology and why it is most useful in large, dynamic hub-and-spoke DDR networks.
Outcomes:
Upon completion of this unit, student will know, understand and be able to describe WAN services, Frame Relay, ISDN, Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), LCP, PAP and CHAP, Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC), High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC), Link-Access Procedure, Balanced (LAPB), IEEE 802.2, and Qualified Logical Link Control (QLLC), Dial-on-Demand Routing (DDR), and topologies supported by DDR.
Assessment:
Students are presented with pre-course test to determine their knowledge before taking the course. During the course students will be presented with a series of quizzes to determine gained knowledge and retention of each section. At the end of the course students will be given a post course test to measure their overall understanding of the subject and retention of knowledge. By comparing their pre and post course test scores, students will be able to measure their knowledge gain.
