Full Description


Developing Curriculum for Online Programs  is a seven day online course. It will help you explore special requirements and the tools needed for effective online curriculum development.

This course is offered by a State Accredited University and offers State Board Continuing Education credits for Michigan teachers.  If you are located in a state other than Michigan, please check to see if your State Board will honor the Continuing Education Credit.  The course provider will be happy to provide you with appropriate documentation.

This course is designed for K12 teachers but the concepts and examples will translate for any online course developer.



Outcomes:


After completing this course, you will be able to:
  • Explain the reasons for the importance of a curriculum development team
  • Outline the skills required of team members
  • Name accrediting agencies
  • Describe the infrastructure needed for developing, providing, and maintaining online courses/programs
  • Distinguish among the major forms of online instruction and online delivery methods
  • Identify and develop the components of an online course
  • Identify and apply elements of Instructional Design
  • Describe and apply the appropriate writing style for creating online documents
  • Describe and apply the role of static visuals and multimedia elements in online courses


Assessment:


Grading Policies:  This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion. Please check your success in the Tools, Gradebook area. Assessments can be re-taken any time during the course. This course allows you to earn 1 SB-CEU which is available to anyone completing the course with a 70% or better passing score.

Lesson 1
Lesson 1 - Introduction to Developing Curriculum for Online Programs This lesson examines the curriculum development process along with the special needs and benefits of online programs.  Accreditation offices for online programs are listed.
Lesson 2 - Developing the Infrastructure Lesson 2 outlines the support personnel necessary to offer a successful online program.  Specific duties are identified.
Lesson 3 - Course Management Systems This lesson covers course management systems along with developing an online course using using a combination of websites, online discussions and online testing.
Lesson 4 - Description of Online Course Components Lesson 4 covers the major components of a course including syllabus, instructor presentations, assignments and assessments.
Lesson 5 - Course Look and Feel This lesson details skills you will need to be successful at designing curriculum for an online course.  Visual aids and the use of multimedia are also covered.
