Graphics & Digital Imaging Fundamentals is a seven day online course. It is designed to help you learn the basics on acquiring pictures with a digital camera, with a scanner, by screen capture and from the Internet. You also learn the basics with regard to file types, file size issues, resolution, layers, and transparency.

This course is offered by a State Accredited University and offers State Board Continuing Education credits for Michigan teachers. If you are located in a state other than Michigan, please check to see if your State Board will honor the Continuing Education Credit. The course provider will be happy to provide you with appropriate documentation.

This course is designed for K12 teachers but the concepts and examples will translate for any online course developer.

Grading Policies:  This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion. Please check your success in the Tools, Gradebook area. Assessments can be re-taken any time during the course. This course allows you to earn 1 SB-CEU which is available to anyone completing the course with a 70% or better passing score.

Lesson 1
Lesson 1 - Printed vs Digital Images This lesson begins with the history of using images in curriculum.  Other topics covered are the role of images in teaching and learning and the attributes of printed and digital images.
Lesson 2 - Basic Terminology of Digital Imaging Basic terms used when working with digital images are covered.  Terms such as JPEG, GIF, TIFF along with pixels and screen resolution are covered.
Lesson 3 - Obtaining Digital Images for Teaching Learn about the different techniques used in obtaining and creating digital images.  Ideas for integrating digital cameras into the curriculum are presented.
Lesson 4 - Image Editing This lesson gives an overview of image editing software and the benefits and usability of each.
Lesson 5 - Copyright Issues Lesson 5 gives you an overview of issues you should be aware of when using images and resources found on the web.  Educational institutions have a little more freedom than businesses but there are a number of ways you can be sure you are within the limitations of copyright law.
