Course Description

Technology Integration - Best Practices is a seven day online course. It will help you discover some of the “best practices” used by educators today to integrate technology into their classrooms. This course will cover the basics with regard to what works and what doesn’t and introduce appropriate tools to facilitate instruction of core-curricular objectives.

This course is offered by a State Accredited University and offers State Board Continuing Education credits for Michigan teachers.  If you are located in a state other than Michigan, please check to see if your State Board will honor the Continuing Education Credit.  The course provider will be happy to provide you with appropriate documentation.

This course is designed for K12 teachers but the concepts and examples will translate for any online course developer.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • plan for implementing technologies into your teaching.
  • describe the differences between the Traditional and the Constructivist approach to teaching and learning.
  • describe instructional changes they might happen when integrating technology into teaching.
  • categorize computer hardware and software based on their role in teaching.
  • briefly describe several computer hardware and software and list a few ways for their integration into classrooms.
  • develop a lesson plan or unit for technology integration.

Assessment

Grading Policies:  This course is self-directed and assessments are graded immediately upon completion. Please check your success in the Tools, Gradebook area. Assessments can be re-taken any time during the course. This course allows you to earn 1 SB-CEU which is available to anyone completing the course with a 70% or better passing score.


Week 1
Lesson 1
Lesson 1 - Introduction to Technology Supported Education In this lesson, planning and implementing issues that are created when technology integration is incorporated into your teaching are covered.
Lesson 2 - Instructional Changes This lesson presents issues the infusion of technology can present for today''s teachers.  Teacher and student roles during technology implementation are discussed.
Lesson 3 - Integrating Different Hardware and Software into Teaching and Learning Lesson 3 outlines hardware and software items that support an immediate technology influence on learning.
Lesson 4 - Examples of "Best Practices" In this lesson, a number of previously evaluated lesson plans are presented.  Multiple class levels and subject areas are covered.
