Course Description
 

The Comprehensive Medical Billing-Coding Training Program is a fully developed, interactive teaching process that provides the equivalent of over a year of actual billing-coding-health insurance specialist training.  The combination of the three:  BILLING, CODING AND HEALTH INSURANCE SPECIALIST provide interesting and exciting career opportunities, from working in to managing a medical provider office.  Students will first learn medical terminology, an important prerequisite to the coding process.  They will move on to the Coding Module of the Training, then the Billing Module and complete the course with Health Insurance Specialist Training.  The combination of skills is extremely marketable in the health care industry.

Medical coding is the process of using a system of numbers to represent various medical problems, (diagnoses), (ICD-codes) and treatments, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT-4 – from the American Medical Association). The International Classifications of Diseases (ICD-9) is the codebook with the problems (diagnoses) numerically assigned. The books are NOT included in the course. They may be obtained from the vendor or the publisher.

Medical Billing is the process of preparing and communicating an electronic claim to a payer, tracking and inputting copayments and reimbursement from third party payers.

Health Insurance Specialists know all the rules created by third party payers, both public and private.  They know where and when claims are to be filed , what information must be included, and whether a claim is appropriately paid according to the rules and regulations of public and private payers.

Who uses the services?  Hospitals, clinics, doctor offices, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), mental healthcare facilities, insurance companies, law offices, and government agencies and even ambulance companies.  . The course well prepares for those who desire to work from home as independent consultants using medical billing and coding programs and other computer software.  The skills also improve the likelihood of management positions.

The Billing course provides real time experience in the billing process.  The Coding Training Program will provide all of the how-to and coding practice needed to learn to code successfully. It includes over 600 patient charts to practice on, with CPT, ICD, HCPCS coding training. The entire training program was developed by coders with 20+ years of experience to train would be coders in a fast track methodology. The Health Insurance Specialist will round out the knowledge required for processing medical claims.

The course uses an accelerated instruction mental "technology platform learning system" which helps one retain technical information quite easily. Specific information is presented, and then interactively tested for retention.

Background: Requires medical terminology or a strong clinical background to analyze the contents of medical records.   Candidates must be detail-oriented, analytical, and have exemplary organizational skills.   The terminology training included in this program allows a full understanding of how to code diagnoses and procedures.

You start with medical terminology, then study coding theory, but the way you learn to code is by actually coding, so we exclusively provide over 600 actual medical record charts for you to practice on, with the complete rationale provided immediately after you code a chart so you learn as you go. Assessment
 

Self-assessment follows each lesson set so the student is constantly aware of progress, and concludes with a final examination. A passing grade is based on completion of 70% or more.
